Ok, so now I'm on my own reading schedule:) Not exactly hitting the days on track but still reading, learning and always experiencing. We left off with David sinning with Bathsheba and paid dearly for it by the death of their son. Then he slept with her and they had another son Solomon. Now David had another son named Absalom who's mother was Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, King of Geshur. Absalom had a beautiful sister named Tamar and her half brother, named Amnon, was obsessed with her. Amnon raped her then suddenly his love turned to hate and he hated her more than he loved her. Absalom eventually has Amnon killed and fled to his grandfather the king of Geshur. He stayed there for 3 years. There's a cool quote a woman from Tekoa says to King David. "Our lives are like water spilled out on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God does not just sweep life away; instead, he devises ways to bring us back when we have been separated from him." aaaaaaawwwwesome:) Now things motor on and Absalom gets a big head and he stirs up a rebellion against King David because he wants to become king. Absalom stole the hearts of the people of Israel and they began to follow him not David. He looked to Ahithophel and Hushai for advice and went with Hushai's advice on how to defeat King David and his people. Now all of this was happening as part of God's plan. "For the Lord had determined to defeat the counsel of Ahithophel, which really was the better plan, so that he could bring disaster on Absalom!"
Ahithophel realized that this advice had not been followed so he killed himself. uhhhhhhhhhhh OK taking it a little hard but part of God's plan!
David went to Mahanaim and was warmly greeted by Shobi son of Nahash and by Makir son of Ammiel and by Barzillai of Gilead. they brought him and his people mats, pots, food...etc to feed and give them and let them sleep.
New Testament for the end of May Jesus is crucified in the manner as written in the scriptures. Jesus is with his disciples and he looks up to the sky and says "Father the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life-to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began."
Jesus is captured and nailed to the cross. Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, "I am thirsty." A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, "It is finished!" Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.
It was the day of preparation and the Jewish leaders didn't want the bodies hanging there the next day which was the Sabbath and Passover. So they asked Pilate to speed up their deaths by breaking the prisoners legs then the bodies can be taken down. The soldiers broke the legs of the two people that were hanging with Jesus but when they came to him they saw he was already dead so they didn't break his legs. They did pierce his side with a spear and blood and water flowed out. (This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account. He speaks the truth so that you also can believe.) These things happened in fulfillment of the Scriptures that say, "Not one of his bones will be broken," and "They will look on the on the pierced."
Joseph of Arimathea, a secret disciple of Jesus got permission from Pilate to take the body away and laid it in a tomb near by. Following Jewish custom they first wrapped Jesus' body with spices in long sheets of linen cloth.
